We started back in October 1995 after receiving a Computer Networking Certificate from Northern Essex Community College and two years teaching an A Plus preporation course. Our first contract was at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester MA, providing desktop support for 4,000 clients.
That contract was a great learning experience but we wanted to expand more. We took contracts with
Intel,
Putnam Investments, and
Prentice Hall migrating users from Novell to NT and installing Y2K patches.
We also did small jobs building PC's until a contract was started with Computer Vision Services Inc. (CVSI) in Bedford MA.
Roles filled included LAN Administrator and Desktop Support Manager for 700 users in 12 countries. We traveled to England to install an Exchange 5.5 email server in 1999.
Some of the other projects accomplished in eight months working in the Bedford office include:
- Replacing all old servers with new ones.
- Implementing regular Preventative Maintenance schedules.
- Migrate user desktop's from Windows 95 to Windows NT 4.0.
- Training and advising desktop support staff.
- Setting up remote access for users and administration (VPN and DUN).
- Perform major security audit and create policies.
- Identify, track down, and stop hackers and spammers.
After the above projects (plus other smaller ones) were completed, we set up a way to do everything needed from anywhere in the world with just a laptop and phone line. We moved the company to Florida in January of 2000 after several months of planning and agreeing to a work as a contractor for CVSI from home. In January 2001, CVSI was bought by NCR. NCR offered contract work in Dayton Ohio. This was a little further than we were willing to travel.
There were also several contracts for the US Post Office, Marriott Vacation Club, and GE Medical. Next was work setting up and supporting office networks, including V Starr Interiors, owned by Venus Williams, the tennis superstar in Jupiter FL. Other clients include Doctor's Offices, Mortgage Brokers, Industrial Linen Facilities, Insurance Agencies, Lawyers Offices, Warehouses, and Real Estate Offices in South Florida.
